Lower floor care cost with NeverStrip Vinyl Seal. A member of the NeverStrip Family of Micron Film Coatings. Vinyl Seal is used on resilient flooring including VCT, LVT, Linoleum and Rubber. It is well suited for these types of floors for multiple reasons, including: 1) ease of cleaning, 2) refresh-ability and 3) lower floor care cost or maintenance compared to acrylic floor finish or wax. Vinyl Seal provides an attractive low satin appearance. Vinyl Seal does not yellow over time and is not made from oil.
Acrylic floor finish or wax has dominated VCT maintenance for decades. Vinyl Seal provides dramatic benefits compared to wax. These benefits are listed below:
1. Lower floor care cost by 30% in a high maintenance retail environment like a grocery store
2. Typical 50% reduction in the number of coats
3. Estimated 90% reduction of burnishing dust
4. Typical 70%+ reduction in burnishing
5.Typical50%+ reduction in re-coat frequency
6. 100% reduction in stripping
7.Similarsteps/process as wax, just less of them
8. Similar shine
9. More scuff and scratch resistant
10. More stain resistant
11. 3X better sq. foot coverage per gallon (thinner is better)
12. Outstanding slip coefficient
13. Eliminates wet stripping conditions by eliminating stripping
14. Less odors, far less by eliminating stripping
15. 3x to 5x faster dry times (5-10 minutes vs. 30-45 minutes for wax)
LVT is an expanding flooring category. It is taking market share away from virtually every other type of flooring including VCT and carpeting.
LVT increasingly comes out of the factory with a polyurethane (PU) coating protecting the PVC-based wear layer. The factory-applied PU coating is thin, maybe a single mil or two in thickness. The PVC wear layer is typically much thicker at 20, 30 or more mils.
The LVT manufacturers often say LVT is low to no maintenance. Clearly, a floor is never “no maintenance”. A PU layer certainly can allow the floor to be lower maintenance, especially as compared to the use of conventional floor finish or wax.
NeverStrip believes a strong case can be made for the use of NeverStrip Vinyl Seal on LVT with or without a factory-applied PU coating. An approach to lower floor care cost. Let us explain.
NeverStrip Floor Coatings has often been brought into situations where the PVC wear layer, without protection from a finish or coating, is scuffed and scratched. The scuffs are not black shoe marks but actual translucent marks of the PVC wear-layer surface. These scuffs and surface scratches (often from improper furniture glides) have an unsightly appearance and are difficult (not impossible), expensive and time consuming to remove.
Vinyl Seal does not produce translucent scuffs like the PVC wear layer. Vinyl Seal certainly can scratch. However, unlike LVT, Vinyl Seal is easily refreshable. Vinyl Seal does not need to be stripped like floor finish but can be scrubbed or burnished (if desired) and re coated to remove scuffs and surface scratches. Vinyl Seal can lower floor care costs.
Another common challenge of LVT, especially textured or embossed LVT, is it can be more difficult to keep clean. Vinyl Seal applied onto LVT, even highly textured or embossed flooring, has proven much easier to clean and keep clean.
Many believe if LVT has a factory-applied PU coating, then all is good and for all practical purposes no maintenance is required.
Wrong! NeverStrip Dealers tell NeverStrip that LVT needs a further level of protection and an ability to refresh the surface. Vinyl Seal provides both. Vinyl Seal can lower floor care costs.
Let’s start with the simple Fact or Truth that a factory-applied PU coating will scratch. The question is then, what does one do when this happens? A NeverStrip Dealer recently installed 70,000 sq. feet of LVT with a factory-applied PU from one of the world’s largest flooring manufacturers. The end user now has a heavily scratched floor (from chairs) only months after installation.
If Vinyl Seal had been applied post installation, the Vinyl Seal may have scratched/scuffed but likely would have protected the LVT PU layer from much of the abuse. The Vinyl Seal could then be easily refreshed, while NeverStrip felt chair glides were installed to eliminate ongoing scratching.
Vinyl Seal has an attractive, wet coefficient of friction. Independent testing shows Wet Static Coefficient of Friction of 0.70 or greater. Not all PU coatings have a desired COF, especially Wet! Vinyl Seal applied onto the PU coating of a wet LVT floor can often improve a floors traction. It is common for Vinyl Seal to be used on LVT on ramps, stairwells and entrances, where water can show up. Vinyl Seal is micron thin. NeverStrip believes this thinness allows the rubber to retain much of its inherent resiliency and traction.
Rubber flooring has outstanding traction and is highly resilient. Rubber can also be terribly difficult to keep clean.
Vinyl Seal provides three clear values on a rubber floor:
1. Vinyl Seal make it easy to clean the floor
2. Vinyl Seal retains much of the desired traction, and
3. Vinyl Seal enriches the colors of a rubber floor, which many find attractive and desire-able.
